Titans take to the links in first round of OFSAA championship

By Larry Moko

The Bishop Tonnos Titans golf team is in sixth place after the first round of the OFSAA boys’ golf championship in Whitby.

The final round of the tournament is scheduled for Thursday at the Royal Ashburn Golf Club.

Champion of the Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference, the Titans carded an opening-round 235 (the top three scores per team count). That’s 19 over par and three strokes behind the third-place entry from the Northern Ontario Secondary School Association.

Low score on opening day was a 2-over 218 – by the Lake Ontario Secondary School host entry.

Liam Mosher led Tonnos with a 2-over 74. Individually, he’s tied for 14th place. Alex Duarte was next with a 7-over 79 (tied for 43rd) and Luca Carestia came in with an 82 (T68). The fourth member of the Titans – Adam McLean – shot an 85 (T84).

Teams from 20 high school associations are competing.

Tonnos won its first GHAC title last week at Piper’s Heath in Milton.
