The Bishop Tonnos Titans placed eighth best in the province at the OFSAA boys’ high school golf championship in Whitby Thursday.
Representing the Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference, coach Steve Maga’s Titans were vying for the title against foursomes from 19 other Ontario associations at the Royal Ashburn Golf Club.
Tonnos finished with a two-round total of 479. That was 47-over par.
The low overall team score – only three players per team counted --- was turned in by Sinclair of the Lake Ontario Secondary School Association. Its total was 450.
Individually, Liam Mosher of Tonnos fired a final-round 79 for a 36-hole total of 153. That tied him for 13th place in the open division. According to OFSAA officials, “A student-athlete who has competed in a provincial of national tournament within the past 12 months outside the high school program, shall by classified as an Open participant within the individual division.”
Mosher’s teammate, Luca Carestia was also in the Open category. He tied for 49th with rounds of 82-81 for 163.
In the individual high school division, Alex Duarte of the Titans tied for 15th and Tonnos’s Adam McLean was 35th. Their respective scores were 163 (79-84) and 174 (85-89).
This was the first year Tonnos had ever competed in the OFSAA tournament as a team. Last year, Carestia took part as an individual.
