During National Apprenticeship Week, November 14-18, 2022, the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board celebrates the many amazing apprenticeship opportunities for students in the Skilled Trades.
Each year, more than 300 HWCDSB students participate in OYAP (Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program) programs.
OYAP is a School to Work program that opens the door for students to explore and work in apprenticeship occupations starting in Grade 11 or Grade 12 through the Cooperative Education program.
Students have an opportunity to become registered apprentices and work towards becoming certified journeypersons in a skilled trade while completing their secondary school diplomas. Apprenticeships are available in Motive Power, Service, Construction, and the Industrial Trades.
Why care about apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships merge on-the-job training with classroom learning, making it an ideal way for students and job-seekers to gain the skills they need to be successful in their career. Through the Edge Factor online platform
located on myClass LMS, students are able to explore, prepare and connect on their career journey.
