Bishop Tonnos Prepares and Deploys Emergency “Comfort Kits”

At Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School, student safety, dignity, and well-being remain at the heart of everything we do. In a proactive effort to prepare for extended emergency situations, every classroom in the school has now been equipped with an emergency “Comfort Kit.” These kits are designed to provide both practical support and reassurance should students and staff ever be required to remain in a lockdown for an extended period.

Each kit includes carefully selected items, to ensure that, in the rare event of an extended lockdown, the needs and dignity of our students and staff can be supported. The hope, of course, is that these kits will never need to be used. However, having them in place helps reduce stress and anxiety, providing comfort in knowing the school is prepared.

This initiative was strongly supported by Principal Calabrese, who recognized its value and ensured it received the resources and encouragement required.  It was brought to life through Student Success teachers, Mrs. Grilli and Mr. Leombruni, who planned, ordered and prepared the kits.

A special highlight of the project is the contribution of the Life Skills students, who inventoried, helped assemble and delivered the kits to classrooms. Their efforts reflect the meaningful skills they are developing each day as they prepare for life beyond high school, and the entire school community takes pride in their important role.

While it can be uncomfortable to imagine needing these kits, the Bishop Tonnos community has tremendous faith in its students to face challenges with maturity, compassion, and support for one another in times of adversity.
